Estate Syrah 2019/20, Te Mata, Hawkes Bay
Glowing a saturated magenta, Estate Syrah ’19 entices with fresh blueberry, black cherry and ripe, black plum. Hints of prune, coffee, Italian herbs, cinnamon and wood smoke all underpin the exotic nature of this ultra-modern wine. Te Mata Estate was established in 1896 and remains family-owned, creating small batches of internationally recognised wines from their Hawkes Bay vineyards and in New Zealand’s oldest wine cellar.
The individual parcels of syrah from each plot were destremmed for fermentation and remained on skins for extrended maceration before pressing. It was then run off to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 12 motnh’ maturation, during which time it was regularly topped and racked. The wine received a traditional egg white fining before bottling.
