Tasting Notes
A rare confluence of delicate complexity and medium to full bodied weight on the palate, with lovely minerality like other wines of the region.
The Producer
Compañía de Vinos del Atlántico (CVA) was founded in 2002 with the purpose of uniting the winemaking heritage of the families of Alberto Orte and Patrick Mata, which dates back to the late 1800s. CVA currently produces wines in 18 different appellations within the Iberian Peninsula, hand selecting the best vineyards to handcraft wines that express the identity of the place where they come from.
Vara Y Pulgar is produced with one of the most rare grape varieties of southwestern Spain: The Tintilla. Cultivated in Jerez for many centuries, it disappeared after the phylloxera epidemic in the early 20th century. Winemaker Alberto Orte recovered a few cuttings from abandoned vineyards that managed to survive and, after many years of work, managed to produce the first bottles of 100% Tintilla still (dry) wine in over a century.
