Tasting Notes

Floral, perfumed and wonderfully lifted, there’s a core of grapefruit and elderflower, as well as greengage and yellow plum, and then leesy complexity on the palate. There’s such drive on the finish, from the Paardeberg fruit, and then a peacock’s tail of flavours emerges.

The Producer

Van Loggerenberg Wines is a family-run winery based in Paarl, making low-intervention, site-specific wines from vineyards mainly in the Stellenbosch and Swartland appellations. “For me, freshness and purity are paramount. I want to express the vineyard sites with elegance, balance and bags of flavour – Lukas van Loggerenberg, Winemaker.

Label Story: “We all have this inner instinct telling us what to do and sometimes you really just have to trust your gut to tell you what the right move is. I sourced grapes from special vineyards to use in this blend, which I believe is a great example of a wine that is made up of components that come together to provide a wine that is greater than the sum of its individual parts. All the pictures on the label are in some way symbolizing to trust your gut to give you direction like a compass provides to a sailor and like a bee just knows where it has to go to find pollen and make honey. The stamp is to emphasize our South African heritage.”

Vinification

The grapes for this wine are sourced from 2 parcels from different regions. The biggest portion, 61%, of the wine is sourced from a block in the Paardeberg (Swartland) and 39% from the Polkadraai hills of Stellenbosch .The Paardeberg portion is from bush vine grapes planted on decomposed granite giving the wine its elegance, finesse and focus. The portion from the Polkadraai is planted on Granite and lends characteristics of yellow fruit and depth to the wine.
