Tasting Notes

Intense and highly complex aromatic composition with characteristic aromas of apple, butter, and sweet spices like cinnamon and cloves on the nose.  Rich, refreshing, medium-bodied with light tannins, tangy spice notes and citrus peel balanced by a touch of honey blossom, it’s amazing as an aperitif alongside a cheese board with nuts and apricots.

The Producer

Lefteris Glinavos of Domaine Glinavos was one of the pioneers of the Greek wine revival. His estate, now run by son Thomas, is in Zitsa in the north-west, mountainous region of Epirus, western Greece. With the help of the local university, Thomas Glinavos researched this old traditional wine style (paleokerisio means ‘old-fashioned’) and decided to revive it.

Vinification

A semi-sparkling/semi-dry orange wine made in a traditional way from a blend of a predominantly white variety with a small amount from a red variety, both endemic to this region. Made from the local, indigenous grape Debina with a splash of Vlahiko, it spends 12 days macerating on its skins before it’s bottled in the middle of fermentation resulting in a funky, demi-sec, orange, lightly sparkling wine that defies categorization.
