Tasting Notes

Straw yellow color with light gold highlights; a delicate but distinct aroma with fragrant notes of green apple, lemon, toasted bread, honey and white fleshy fruit; dry and fresh on
the palate, with a pleasant flavoursome mineral finish.

The Producer

Arguably Valtellina’s most iconic producer, Casa Vinicola Nino Negri was founded in 1897 and owns 31 hectares of vineyards across the most prestigious of the Valtellina Superiore D.O.C.G. subzones: Inferno, Sassella, Grumello and Faracia, a monopole vineyard located in the Valgella subzone. The winery is based in Chiuro, in the old fifteenth-century Castello Quadrio. Due to the extremely steep hillsides, Nino Negri’s estate is characterised by terracing to allow cultivation of the land. All vineyard work, including vineyard management and harvest is done entirely by hand along the terraces supported by a myriad of age- old dry stonewalls, a symbol of this valley.

Vinification

The Nebbiolo grapes, picked by hand in crates, are vinified in white with a soft pressing
and an immediate separation of the skins to avoid the transfer of colour to the must. The
fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 18° C. Once
fermentation is completed, the wine is racked and left on fine lees for some months. This
long lysis of the yeasts increases the aromatic complexity while softening the taste and
giving succulence on the palate.
