Tasting Notes
This alluring Cabernet Sauvignon draws you in with aromas of black cherry, blackberry, mocha, savoury blueberry and sweet baking spices. On the palate, silky tannins and a supple, rounded texture frame the voluptuous dark berry flavours, with notions of barrel spice adding nuance and complexity to the long, lush finish.
The Producer
Established in 1985, Decoy is recognised for its commitment to producing attractively priced wines from exceptional vineyard sources, including Decoy’s own Ridgeline and Brownell Estate vineyards in the Alexander Valley. Over the years, the Decoy lineup has grown to include a Sonoma County appellation designated Red Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as a California Rosé.
The winemaking program at Decoy is guided by Winemaker Dana Epperson, who has established expertise working with multiple grape varieties throughout her career. In addition, because of The Duckhorn Portfolio’s unique structure, Decoy benefits from the talent and experience of the Duckhorn Vineyards, Goldeneye, and Paraduxx winemakers – each of whom has a unique area of specialization.
Vinification
The growing season began with minimal winter rains and a mild spring. With drought conditions throughout California, they carefully tailored their vineyard practices to ensure balanced crop loads. The berries and clusters were smaller than average, producing lower yields but deeply concentrated flavours, aromas and textures. Overall, the resulting wines are of exceptional quality, with lovely balance, excellent natural acidity, and bright, juicy flavours. The wine was aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels, 40% new, 60 % neutral.
