Tasting Notes
Subtle floral and citrus notes on the nose, combined with a watermelon juiciness. On the palate, Atlantic Ocean breezes bring a welcomed touch of salinity, layered over red fruits and blood orange.
The Producer
Van Loggerenberg Wines is a family-run winery based in Paarl, making low-intervention, site-specific wines from vineyards mainly in the Stellenbosch and Swartland appellations. “For me, freshness and purity are paramount. I want to express the vineyard sites with elegance, balance and bags of flavour – Lukas van Loggerenberg, Winemaker.
Vinification
The cinsaut vineyard was planted in 1992 on decomposed granite soils in the Helderberg area of Stellenbosch. These bush vines are farmed solely for making this wine, the proximity to the ocean and the constant sea breeze that’s blowing here gives the wine a beautiful salty finish and additional focus on the palate. The wine went through Malolactic fermentation which also adds complexity to the wine. The wine spent 8 months in barrel before bottling. No enzymes or commercial yeast was used in making the wines.
