Tasting Notes

The dark juicy plum drives a generous entry to the palate and that spiced cherry adds great focus and length of flavour. Cinnamon and subtle anise characters are woven into the tactile structure of the wine. The tannin backbone compliments juicy acidity giving a velvety yet lively texture and a mouthwatering finish.

The Producer

In the south of New Zealand there lies a beautiful and powerful place called Central Otago. This land, dominated by rivers and mountains and shaped by glaciers, has become the most intriguing place in the new world to grow Pinot noir – the capricious one.

Akitu, in the Maori language, means the summit, the apex or the highest point. The vineyard is at 380 metres above sea level right on the grape growing edge, against the alps and in the southern most winemaking region on earth. Their entire vineyard is dedicated to Pinot noir and the very best of their harvest makes akitu.

Established in 2001 and set in the heart of Central Otago’s Upper Clutha basin, Akitu’s 12-hectare vineyard sits on a stunning north facing slope.
